ABOUT US

Reliving Fishing Tales and Adventures

In the early 1980's Kingfisher Designer, Jim Clark, bought a vintage wooden 1963 Chris Craft Cruiser to fish and tour the California Delta.  Jim had grown up fishing the delta for large-mouth bass with his twin brother, Bob. Jim was anticipating revisiting the adventures of his youth.  It only took one weekend on his beloved boat to realize that he could not fish from a cruiser and had to be able to get up and personal with those bass in order to catch them

Designing New Fishing Adventures

Jim sat on his boat that first weekend designing just the craft he would need.  He had to have a light, comfortable and nimble fishing boat that could be carried on the swim board of his new cruiser.

Ready To Catch Fish

It only took a short while before Jim was able to come up with a design that met all his needs.  The boat he designed turned out to be more like a kayak.  It had a flat stern so that it could be tied on it's tail on the swim board for transportation.  It had a rudder and peddles to make it possible to slowly meander in the delta's tall grasses and tree branches looking for his trophies of large-mouth bass.  Jim ended up making several of these wonderful small kayaks that were averaging 8 feet in length and weighed under 50 lbs.  We carried two of them in the cruiser, just for fun.

"I recently viewed a video on your motorized
kayak, it was extremely impressive." Mike

Oregon's Wild River's Coast

In 1999, Jim took an early retirement to Southern Oregon's Wild Rivers Coast.  After getting his feet wet with ocean fishing from a new Trophy Boat, he set about to try his luck in the nearby rivers using his 8 foot kayak with the rudder.  The kayak was difficult to control in the current and he realized that he would have to design another fishing boat keeping in mind the success he had with his first design of 30 years before.

Jim Clark is the designer/builder of the Kingfisher Electric Boats.  He had a long career in the electronics business before moving to the Oregon coast, where he spends his time designing his innovative way to quietly fish hands-free on Wild River's Coast of Southern Oregon

"Jim is either fishing or thinking about fishing", Karen, his wife
